Background Intelligent Transfer Service and WindowsUpdate.

I have been troubleshooting an issue with the Background Intelligent Transfer
Service and I have been unable to resolve the problem. I have tried all of
the suggestions for renaming/deleting directories, registry changes, etc.
found in the knowledge base without any success. I cannot find a specific
article for the error code reported.

System Error log entries:

The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service entered the running
state. (Event ID 7036) 7/2/2007 12:13:16 PM

The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service entered the stopped
state. (Event ID 7036)

The BITS service failed to start. Error 2147942522 (Event ID 16392)

This issue appears to have started when I installed Norton Internet Security
2006. I have since uninstalled the product and the problem continues.

Is anyone aware of a fix or a Vista compatable download to reinstall BITs?
I really do not want to have to reinstall Vista Ultimate.

So much for the 24-hour guarentee for TechNet subscribers.

Why? Did you call support and not get a call back yet? Or did you think
you would have answer within 24hrs by posting in a public newsgroup where no
one is under any obligation to answer any questions?

Actuallly, our contract with Microsoft "guaranttees" a 24-hour response time
in these newsgroups. Also, If you look at:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/default.aspx

"As a TechNet Plus subscriber, you can exchange ideas with other IT
Professionals and get expert answers to your technical questions in over 100
managed newsgroups—all within the next business day guaranteed"

So, as I said...so much for the 24-hour guarentee for TechNet subscribers.

I doubt that these are the "managed newsgroups".
I think you are in the wrong room.

* How do I access the managed newsgroups?

To access managed newsgroups, sign in at
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/manage/ and follow the link
to Managed Newsgroups in the benefit list. All managed newsgroups are
available through either the Web-based newsreader or an NNTP newsreader,
such as Outlook Express. A Web browser is all you need to access discussion
groups. Although anyone can view or post to these groups, in order to ensure
you receive a response within the next business day, you must post using a
no-spam posting alias.

Problem Fix below rant:

That is how I made the post(s) originally and how I just got here. I am
currently accessing this newsgroup from MS's Technet site via their manged
newsgroup links. I followed their requirements to the letter. And yes, I
know that these are not MS only newsgroups, I know what Usenet Newsgroups
are, and yes, I know that the guarantee is BS. And by the way, NO, I will
not be including TechNet subscriptions in my budget next year.

I started asking for assistance four months ago. I AM very upset at having
to apply fixes manually for four months because a service that is so heavilly
utilized by Vista Ultimate is so fragile and does not trap/handles errors, it
just crashes. Bitsadmin does not work since BITS does not start.

The only way I have found to resolve the issue was to do a safe/minimal (set
in MSConfig) reboot and delete the Qmgr*.dat files. It fixes the immediate
problem, but does not stop it from occuring again. In this instance, the
Windows XP/200x KB's do not work in Vista.

Then I would suggest you contact customer service as whomever from MS is
supposed to moniter this newsgroup, isn't doing it. Which means posting
""so much for the 24-hour guarentee" is also going to go un-noticed by an MS
rep.

But the vast majority of us made no such guarantee.
