I'm getting the following error message if anyone has a suggestion that woul
dbe great thanks

Windows couldnot start the Background Intelligent Transfer Service on Local
Computer. FOr more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a
non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service
specific error code -214702894

I had a slightly different error code 2147942402 (0x80070002) but the effect
was the same... BITS refusing to start. Turns out that Norton was to blame.
When Norton won't uninstall properly there's a removal tool called symnrt.exe
which handily seems to sometimes break BITS and therefore Windows update.
Look for instructions by 'AldenIT' on how to make 'fixbits.bat' here:
