What do you wish to back up? If it's just a bunch of music, picture, etc.
files, you can use your burning software to create a "data" disc. A full
system backup will require additional software such as Norton Ghost or Drive
Image.

I wish to create a back up disc. Can anyone advise how to
do this on xp.
Many thanks
.
WinXP Pro has a backup utility but not in WinXP. You
can purchase one from any computer store or on eBay. It
runs about $40, I personally don't think it is worth it,
for XP saves your settings each time you log off, which
will give you many restore points to go back to up to 90
days. Keep your PC clean, delete cookies and Temp files
and defrag at least once weekly should give you no
problems.
XP's built-in backup software is decent, but it won't back up to removable media
(CD-R, DVD-R, etc.) The backup software included with Nero 6 will! http://www.nero.com/
