It's hard to see how 'pay as you go' will cost less in the long run than
purchasing a Windows box outright, but it's designed for emerging markets.

I don't think this sounds like a very viable business plan, but I suppose
there are a lot of people out there who think getting a plasma display
television from a Rent-A-Center is a good idea, too.

television from a Rent-A-Center is a good idea, too.

It's called "retailing" I believe and the available evidence shows that it
can be quite viable. Especially in emerging markets.

Yes, and the plasma TV is awfully profitable for the Rent-A-Center, but
there aren't a lot of open source/third party alternatives to plasma TVs,
are there...unless maybe you count hand puppet shadows :)
