Amazon have designed their own grocery shopping experience where all you need to do is pick up items off the shelves and walk out the store - no check out lines, it's all automatic. It's called Amazon Go, and there is currently one store in Seattle, although it is only open to Amazon employees at the moment. Seeing is believing, so take a look:

How does Amazon Go work?
Our checkout-free shopping experience is made possible by the same types of technologies used in self-driving cars: computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning. Our Just Walk Out technology automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in a virtual cart. When you’re done shopping, you can just leave the store. Shortly after, we’ll charge your Amazon account and send you a receipt.

It this was posted a few years ago, I would have thought it was a great April fools joke... how times have changed - now it seems quite reasonable. I wonder if this is how we'll all be doing our shopping in 50 years (when it's not delivered by drone ;)).
