When starting Outlook 2003 I keep getting the message,
The add-in "awfext32.dll" could not be installed or
loaded.". Detect and repair has no effect. Uninstalling
and reinstalling Outlook also has no effect. Thoughts
anyone???

That error could only arise if at some point you had tried to install the
old Microsoft Fax program from Windows 95.

I have since tried removing my microsoft fax console which had no effect. With this hard drive I have started with Windows 95, upgraded to Win 98SE, then to Win XP. The only program I have remaining from the Win 95 days that I can think of is Works 4.5 and I still have the Win 98SE environment saved in case I need to switch back for some reason. Is there anything I can do to stop this or should I just get used to living with it?

awfext has nothing to do with Windows XP Fax. It refers to "At Work Fax"
which was the name for the fax software that Windows 95 installed.
Did you look in Outlook's Add-in manager to see if you can remove these
extensions?

OK. I got it. I went into the add-ins manager and remove the checkmark beside Microsoft Fax and it works! I also got it to start receiving mail when I start Outlook by removing the checkmark beside "disable scheduled send and receive". It is working perfectly now. Thank you so very much.
