Hi!
I have WIN XP on a new Dell I bought last month. For my second,
back-up, computer I ran out and purchased an OEM copy of WIN XP HOME.
(Scrupulous me!)

Then the back-up computer crashed, desperately. Despite all the
suggestions and help from the guys on google.groups I had to format
and start all over. BUT, I accidentally loaded the Dell disk, (instead
of the OEM), onto the backupcomputer. Then I loaded all my programs
and ta daaa, there was the dreaded message: "30 days to activate!!!!
Oh, my goodness. I unhooked my backup computer in disgust and am now
using Dell.

Is it posible that if I explain my stupidity to Microsoft Activation
Dept, they will let me keep the Dell XP on my back-up computer,
considering that I did pay for a second copy of XP. If so, then can
someone give me the tele number for that department, I couldn't find
it on my Dell PC.

Thanks!

I don't think they will. But do a repair install over the existing one (with
the right disk) and that should go OK..

Hi,

See you can use this procedure to rectify the error:
