I am having uploading problems with avi files from my camera.. hours and
hours later they are still trying to upload..
I have problems just opening any file with any already uploaded avi file..
Error report wants to keep closing down all windows i am using when this
happens.. It is starting to really annoy me.
is there any patch i can download to fix this

Can't help you with the camera problem but if you are looking for a
viewer for the AVI's, try VLC Video Lan. It's pretty comprehensive what
formats it plays. I rarely use WMP.

Describe exactly what you do when you try and "upload" a file.

Thanks Big Al
I am able to play avi files no problems.
let me be specific with the already avi videos on my pc..
If I open a folder and i have it in thumbnails viewing format. I will get a
microsoft popup saying "Sorry an error has occured, Microsoft needs to close
this program"
If i open a folder in a file viewing format, I dont get any pop ups..
I am assuming it is since we downloaded GOM..
I never ever had the problem of uploading any family videos before at all..
It is only in the last few weeks or so.. They just wont upload at all.. It is
not the Camera..
as that hasnt changed, and we were able to upload videos from it prior to now.
we have thouroughly scanned our pc and No viruses are found either.

It has us stumped and a bit annoyed. microsoft keeps shutting us down..as a
thumbnail view is default.

Hi Bob
we connect up the camera/video recorder into the pc as usual.. and all
photos upload to a file no problems.. but when it gets to the videos we have
taken of family.. it sits there for hours with nothing happening, pc just
freeezes.. we have to close it all down by the wall plug and restart again
for the same thing to happen ...
after everytime we get an update by microsoft, something else to do with
video files goes wrong.. first it was, and still is, if we open a folder
with a video in it..we will get a pop up saying "sorry Microsoft have
encountered a problem, this program needs to close" .Uploading family videos
was never a problem.. Now all of a sudden they wont upload either since the
last automatic update..
we have thoroughly checked for viruses and have none.
I have searched the net and have seen that some people are having the same
problem..but there are no solutions to the problem in their threads.. so I
thought i would come direct to microsoft hoping to find a solution.
*crossing fingers*
as we have some adorable videos of school plays we would dearly love to
upload from camera to pc and burn off and send to family.. we have eliminated
cords , camera, viruses etc...
We are stumped and have no idea where to start with it all..
I hope you can help

It has to do with the way explorer views the files. This edit will help:

100% CPU usage when using Media Player/AVI files

AVI Search Remove (Line 74)

And/or- go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll
