AVG question

A few weeks ago I switched to AVG as my anti-virus program.

Since then I've had several emails bounced back to me with the sender
listed as "AVG for email". The message starts:

"This is the AVG E-mail Scanner program.

I'm sorry to have to inform you that the message returned
below could not be delivered to one or more destinations."

So is the AVG program on my computer not permitting the mail to go out
OR is it the AVG program on the recipient's computer not accepting the
message.
These are messages to people with whom I regularly correspond.

I'm confused.

After using AVG as my only antivirus scanner for years, a few
weeks ago I switched to Avast. I didn't want to, but AVG has been
screwing up on me ever since the upgrade to version 7. I thought I
could avoid the problems by not installing the e-mail scanner, but
I got a problem where my updates somehow corrupted the program
itself, so that I had to reinstall it. After four times, I finally
made the switch. I don't think AVG is as good a free choice as it
used to be.

Here's one possibility. The default setting for AVG puts a small message as
an attachment to your email that says the email was scanned by AVG and is
free of virus. If your recipient has set up a message rule that disallows
attachments, then your email will be bounced. The solution is to set up
your AVG so that it does not attach that message. Go to AVG Control Center,
double click on the E-Mail Scanner area and set it up so that it doesn't
attach the message and check if that makes a difference. HTH, JG

Let me thank the responders.
I've changed this setting and hopefully the problem will be solved.
If it isn't perhaps I'll switch to Avast as someone else suggested.

Isn't this message just added as plain text to the message body?

I use Outlook Express and emails from others using AVG come with the virus
message as an attachment. Note the paperclip if you're using OE. It might
well be different in other email programs. JG

I use OE also, and it does not show as an attachment. It's a signature text
added at the bottom of the message.

Photoman, I first discovered this phenomenon when I tried to email my wife
at her work from our computer at home. Her IT geeks have blocked all emails
with attachments since they were getting so many viruses. I told her that I
had not attached anything but she insisted that emails were not coming
through . It turned out that is was indeed the little AVG message at the
bottom of the email. I went into the Control Center and disabled it (it's
default) and then the emails went through. At least this is true for me,
maybe not you. Have a friend who uses AVG with the message at the bottom
send you an email and check if it comes with the little paperclip indicating
an attachment. If you want me to send you an email from my account with the
AVG message enabled, give me your email (but munge it, of course) and I'll
send you a test email. Best wishes, JG

I've seen 'em come in both ways. Just a WAG here -- if the email is
HTML, it's an attachment; if plain text, it's just tacked on like a sig
file?

Still 'tacked on' when I tried that with an HTML email just now - i.e. NOT
an attachment.

If you have your email program set to disconnect dial-up on sending then it
will disconnect before AVG has a chance to scan and send. Not such a problem
with small text emails but definitely a problem with larger emails.
