AVG for a company?

E

Ed

Hi,

Have used AVG for personal use and I am considering moving my servers
and workstations from Sophos to AVG Network Edition (much cheaper).

I'll download the trial version, but has anybody had experience with
the network edition of AVG? Anything wrong/missing? How does it
handle remote laptop users? Any issues with Exchange Server? Does it
scan email going through the IIS SMTP service? (I use it as a relay).
How does it handle alerting?

Comments on the pro's and con's of AVG Network would be appreciated,
along with anybody having suggestions for alternatives at a similar
price point.

Regards,

Ed.

My own 2 cents. FOr virus detection.. I would tend to avoid it. If you
are willing to pay for AV software I would consider another solution.
See F-Secure, Kaspersky, ESET (NOD32) for example.

Thanks for the reply. Interesting you should suggest NOD32, after
hunting around today I have added it to my list and am going to trial
it. It is around the same cost as AVG.

I've installed the AVG Network Edition trial and at first glance I like
AVG Admin, it is pretty powerful and comprehensive. Although the
interface isn't as "nice" as the Sophos administration console, AVG
Admin does appear to be lightweight and fast.

I haven't yet to tried AVG on an SMTP server, Sophos Puremessage for
SMTP is pretty good and it may be that I keep Sophos for the SMTP relay
and use AVG/NOD32 on the workstations and Exchange server.

So now I'd be interested in comments on both AVG and NOD32 in a
networked environment :)

Cheers.
