AVG 6 (Free) or AVG 7 (Paid) - which to choose

In terms of the protection offered against virus infection does AVG 7 offer
anything more than AVG 6 Free version? Looking at the website it seems you
have more control of scheduling on demand scans and can tweak the nature of
the scans but that seems to be about it. If I just want decent AV protection
is there any need to pay for AVG 7 over AVG 6? I really don't care if my
email is scanned through a proxy or once it hits my machine, just so long as
infection is prevented with low CPU cycles and low memory demand. I'm
running AVG6 and AVG 7 on two different laptops and note a *much* bigger
memory static memory demand in 7 than 6 - like 21MB instead of 2-3MB.

BTW, I used to use NAV 2002, 2003 and recently 2004 and am sick of the
crippling effect it has on my machine speed - I noticed the problem when I
did a clean rebuild and the machine flew with just XP and Office on it. Once
I'd added NAV 2004 it seemed to grind. A friend has also moaned of slower
performance on her machine, moving from NAV 2002 to NAV 2003.

Version 7.0 (paid). I paid $29 for two years subscription/updates. Anyone
who claims THAT is expensive wants....... :)

I used AVG 6.0 (free) and then version 7.0 (trial). I bought version 7.0
shortly after.

It's caught all known viruses, a lot less resource hungry than the big boys
(Symantec, Mcafee, etc)

If your not bothered about the "proxy" email scanner or the scan/test extras then , theres no need to get AVG 7.One other thing you get with the paid for version is access to more servers for update downloading although you can alter the free version too,to download from different servers , though i suppose its
not "ethical" to do so.Plus you get support etc.AVG7 does use more resources /memory than 6 which would be quite noticable on lower spec machine.
