AVG 7 Free Edition Updates. Anybody finding this a bit iffy some times it
works and other times its says closing connection or check configuration
even though other web pages are working fine and the connection is still
there? - its configured to get its updates by free.grisoft.cz and as far as
I know there is no one of changing the adress like you could in AVG6 free
edition.

Hi Andy. The AVG7 Free server is probably being overloaded.
I sometimes get what you described. I usually just let it set
there a while and then it becomes alive and updates. Usually
the updates are small but today it was 1.4 Mb (3 files)and
took about
5-min to download. You can do a manual download for updates
at:

Thanks for the reply Casey. I wondered if it was that the server might be
busy. And thanks also for the manual download address. I suppose we have all
been spoilt with the small downloads we have been getting lately :)

Cheers,

Casey:

I am also having similar problems; it is just not d/l the file(s).

I am not sure how to do the update via the Web.

I can find the files, but where do I save those files??

In the same directory as AVG Free???

Do I then run AVG 7.0 and I assume it then reads the .bin file??

Seems to be slow.

It is taking more then the usual 2 secs to initiate for me. Around a minute
to initiate.

Download is unusually slower then it ever has been.

Not trying to be nasty... well, yes I am I guess... >:)

Are all AVG 7 users stupid, blind or just plain lazy??

This subject has been discussed on here, and answered in detail, so many
times that I am starting to see the answers in my sleep, yet every time
someone encounters the same problem they choose to start a whole new thread
rather than look on the group to see if the answer is already here! And I'm
not even talking about having to do a Google search - there are at least 5
other current threads dealing with the same problem!!!!

And that is before I even think about a Google search or the Grisoft user
forum... oh, why not, lets see what a Google search on AVG update will
show.... Christ!!! OK, lets narrow this down a bit - "avg update problem"
(as in use exact phrase) still shows up 16 results!!!!

Come on people! Let's not be so damn lazy! Don't you think that these poor
people answering your questions get sick of typing the same damn answers to
the same damn questions all the time? It would be far, far easier (and
quicker) to show an inch of common sense and LOOK for an answer first!!!

OK - flame suit on, please reply 'til your hearts content...

Yes, sorry it upsets you so much Martin and I should have googled or checked
the forums first, I am very naughty <slap wrist>

Its a good job when you go to the doctors with problems they have heard over
and over again a thousand times and give the same answers over and over
again that they dont get fed up isn't it......... ;-)

Yes you are, now off to your room without any supper!

Ahh, but you can't do a Google search at your doctor's to find details of
past visits by others with the same problem, can you! I'd suspect that if
you could do such a task for common problems then your doctor would indeed
get tired of giving the same answers!!!

The doctors must get fed up these days with people going into them and
saying 'I looked up my illness on the Internet the other day and I think I
have this wrong with me or I need these particular tablets'.

When I was younger I remember we had this really old medicine book. I think
it was 1940's or something and whenever we had an illness we used to look in
there. It being so old though if you looked up something like a common cold
it said something like the patient nearly always ends up with complications
and is Dead within a week!! - so, I suppose we have come on a bit since then
:)

Cheers,

The AVG7 server may well be overloaded, as they recently announced that all
support for AVG6 would cease in a couple of weeks (extended from January 31)
and all users should upgrade to AVG7.

http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php

If that is the case the situation should stabilise within a week or so.

I don't flame people. I get burnt when it bounces back! Not all of us have
the time to wade back through dozens of threads to see if there is something
relevant posted earlier - especially in busy NGs like this one. Please be
more tolerant.

Well, at around $50 to $150 a visit, and how many people in a day, say 50?

Looks like about 5 grand.

I could do that.
