AutoPlay

Hi,

I currently have autoplay completely turned off
(registry `hack'). However this is not ideal, Windows
seems to get confused when changing CDs. One can get
around this and it is better than having autoplay run a
program as soon as you put a Software auto-install CD in.

Please note - All LISTED CD types have the prompt
action switched on. However I want this to apply to
autorunnable software cds and they aren't on the list of
CD types... (and they still auto-run).

Assuming I switch auto-play back on is there a way to
either:
1) Always prompt before running a program started via
autoplay?
2) Even better, add an entry to the autoplay
properties tab so one can select `.exe/autoplay' or
`Software CD' as something that one can specify the
autoplay action for (`Mixed Content' doesn't seem to do
the trick).

Tony.

Tony;
I realised that I had AutoRun turned off with Tweak UI. Sorry I didn't
remember this in my first post.
If you do not have it, you can get it here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp
Under: Download; TweakUI.exe.

Once you have it, open Tweak UI/click the + next to: My Computer/click the
+ next to AutoPlay/click Drives/UNcheck the Drive(s) you don't want to
AutoPlay/Apply/OK.
I had forgotten that I had done this. This makes it so when you place a CD
in the drive(s), nothing happens. I think this is what you are after.
TweakUI has a lot of other features. There is no Help per say. Click the
+ next to About/click Tips/you can view tips in the right hand pane. You can
also use the ? to display balloon help tips.
Hope this helps. Let us know.

Hi,

No I have autoplay switched off now. What I want to do
is to add software autorun CDs to the `what action do you
want me to do list' so that I could autoplay DVDs and
Music CDs but not Software CDs. I know it would have to
access the software CD to see what type it was I just
don't want it to go on and run the autorun file.

Tony.

1st, enable Autoplay for all CDs.

To cancel Autoplay selectively:
While inserting CD hold down Shift key until CD player light goes out.
