Autoplay fix that works!

R

Ron

I tried for months to get the Autoplay to start when I
plugged the Sony camera in. I tried everything and then
found this post from Russ. In less then a minute my
Autoplay worked.

Go to the registry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current
Version\Policies\Explorer

The issue is actually the presence of the
NoDriveTypeAutoRun here, not the value.

To fix, rename the key to something else (like
XNoDriveTypeAutoRun) and reboot.

That's it

This was not my find, i found it from another poster
named Russ who found it on the Dell web site.

Ron, it just worked for me!!!! I have a Oly D-510. I
just tried your fix and lo and behold, the missing
wizzard showed up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now tho, when I first
plug the camera in, I still get the error box "can't
recognize USB device, but then it goes away after about
half a second and the wizzard comes up. (If you got a
fix for getting rid of that usb error box let me

Yves posted a pointer to a "do it all" autoplay fix. Please let us know if
this new tool fails to solve your autoplay/camera plugin issues.

From Yves Alarie on July 14 2003:
When you connect your camera via USB cable and you wait about 15-20
seconds for XP to recognize your camera, you hear some beeping and a window
should open. This is the Autoplay window (also called the camera Wizard by
some). When this window opens, it gives you several choices such as
downloading photo files from your camera, etc.

Many have reported a problem with this. The camera Autoplay window was
functioning properly and all of a sudden this window does not open anymore.

I won't go into the details on how many times this problem has been
posted here and the number of solutions proposed (some worked, some not). I
asked Microsoft about solving this problem and received a solution. I hope
this solution works better than other solutions previously tried.

To fix the problem you need to go to the following site and download a
small file (autofix.exe) into one of your folder. Then double click on it
and follow the directions on the screen to fix the problem.
http://www.bigblackglasses.com/staff/downloads/autofix.exe

I cannot tell you if it works or not since I never had this problem. So
if you try it please let us know if this works and your experience when
attempting to use this solution.
