Automatically go from Suspend to Hibernate

Hi all,

I have a Dell laptop which, if unplugged from AC, will go from suspend to
hibernate after a certain amount of time (maybe an hour).

However, now I'm trying to make the same thing happen on an IBM laptop, but
it simply remains in suspend mode.

I checked under Power Management, and under "on batteries" I have "System
standby" and "System hibernates" set to 1 and 2 minutes, respectively, for
testing purposes.

Is this a problem with the IBM laptop hardware? Or is this most likely a
Windows/driver/software/config issue? (Or is the Dell an exception among
normal laptop behavior?)

Thanks in advance for any help.

Are you using the installed-by-default QuickSet power management application
on the Dell laptop?

Actually, I had just this week reformatted and reinstalled Win XP on the
Dell laptop (without reinstalling QuickSet), and it is indeed going from
sleep to hibernation, so I guess this means the transition should be
standard behavior. How might I make the IBM laptop accomplish the same?

Update any IBM/Lenovo power management software from Lenovo's website
for your specific model laptop. If the option to do what you want
exists, use it. If not, then the Dell software offers options that the
IBM software does not.

Please include all of previous message(s) in your replies to the newsgroup.

I side with Malke: It may not be an available/included feature on the IBM
laptop. (I don't think it is on my Dell 600m that I bought in Mar-04
either.)
