I assume the process of Windows Update is initiated by each PC rather
than by MS server. Does the PC automatically goes out of the stand-by
mode when the specified time comes and initiates the Windows Update?
You assume correctly. WU is a background process, and like other background
processes will continue unabated while the system is running. Hibernate will
shut it off, but any of the standby levels should allow it to run normally.
