Automatic Updates

I chose to be notified of updates before installing them. Now Microsoft
gives the option to me of downloading the files. Sometimes "download" means
to download AND install. I just want to download the files -- check them
out -- and then install them if they are OK. Does Microsoft mean just
download or both download and install?

You have to set it to "Download updates for me but let me choose when to
install them". Dont choose "Notify when updates are available"

The way I prefer to do it, is I have my auto update set to notify me, but
not download.
When I get the notification, I do not download from within the same
notification, I go to the windows update site, set my scan to custom, then I
can review what updates are available in both critical and software, read
about them, then choose what to download and install.
