automatic updates

I don't like automatic updates so I go to Microsoft's update site.
However, the management there REQUIRES me to reboot my computer before
even looking at the updates and deciding which ones apply and/or I
want. While doing this is no big deal for me, it annoys me.

I use the Mozilla Firefox browser, but using Internet Explorer [which
I assume is required] for updating is no trouble for me.

How would I do a Windows XP S.P. 2 update without having to reboot -
at least before installing the programs?

Thank you,

The fact you have to reboot before viewing updates is a problem on your
system; I have not read in here that anyone else has a similar problem.

If you switch from Firefox to Internet Explorer to get to the WindowUpdate
site are you still required to reboot?

Yes, I'm still required to reboot.
