automatic updates

Today I was prompted that there wer updates to be
downloaded/installed. The download ran in a flash;
however, the Automatic Updates - Installation in process
window has been on my screen for more than six hours with
absolutely no movement on the progress bar. Can this be
normal? Any suggestions...
