Automatic updates - won't go away!

NickT

Have automatic updates turned on.
I have downloaded and installed the updates
KB 839645
KB 841533
KB 841873
KB 893376

...and these are shown as successfully installed in the history.

However, the automatic updates icon still keeps appearing in the tray
saying that these updates need to be installed, and it won't go away!

Any ideas anyone?

TIA

Having checked for some of the causes suggested, I now find that my XP
Pro installation is reporting itself as pre-SP1, and that some of the
updates listed are pre SP1 as well! Service pack 2 was installed some
time ago, and my original installation if from the SP1 release!

Ideas welcome!

Have already tried system restore but no joy

But, I've just done an 'overwrite' install of SP2 in desperation, and it
worked.
I must have cocked up a regedit sometime.
