Automatic updates doesn't work on my dell

I have a dell, legal software, so that shouldnt' be the
problem, but when I go to control panel, system, there is
no tab for automatic updates. There is an icon in
control panel for auto updates, so i set that up to run
automatically once a day, but it doesn't! So i've tried
going to help and suppport adn clicking on the keep your
computer up to date with auto updates and it just sits
there. On my other computers it starts to analyze my
computer adn see which updates I'm missing, but on this
one, it doesn't! just sits there, and this is a new
computer, fast, so what's going on? Thanks in advance!
