automatic saving in windows 2000

My system is currently set so that documents are
automatically saved. I want to turn this off and don't
know how. Despite being a feature of Windows there appears
to be no help to tell me how to do such a simple thing.

This is because AutoSave is NOT a feature of Windows - it
is a feature of your applications such as WinWord or Excel.
Repost in an MSOffice newsgroup!
 
and look into EACH individual application that you'd like the autosave to be
turned off.
It is really straight forward...

Auto-Save is most definitely _not_ a feature of Win2K. You might
try reading the documentation and/or Help files of whatever specific
application you're using to create, edit, and save these unidentified
documents.
