Automatic replies from hidden mailboxes

hi

Can anyone help, we are running Exchange 5.5 on windows 2000 servers (6
sites 19 servers at present), we are not able to upgrade just yet, this is
scheduled in for next year. We have created a new domain and in this new
domain is the first of four Exchange servers. We are rolling out terminal
services to the desktop with XP, then moving our first 1600 users from their
old domain and Exchange server into our new domain and onto our new Exchange
server. Just to complicate this a bit more all these new accounts have
changed their login names and therefore mailbox names, so on the email side
we are using a 2 step exmerge, then renaming .pst files before importing mail
etc into the new mailbox on the new Exchange server.

Now for my question. We have placed alternate delivery addresses on the old
mailbox to cope with the migration process (dist lists will be done at a
later stage), and are hiding mailboxes as the client logs into their new
mailbox. We want a message to be sent to anyone who sends a messages to the
old mailbox, automatically notifying the sender that the mailbox has been
closed and that their mail has been re routed to the new mailbox and that
this message also contains the new mailbox details. I have tried Out of
Office, but it doesn't seem to be working with hidden mailboxes, and also it
would only reply once to a user. Rules don't seem to be working on hidden
mailboxes is this normal ? Can something be set up from the server rather
than each individual mailbox ?

I would be most grateful for any constructive replies. Thank you.

You would probably get a faster answer if you posted this to an Exchange
group.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, Jane Harding asked:
