Automatic Receipt of email when Outlook is opened

I am having to select Send/Receive to get email and I
think there is a way for email to automatically come into
Outlook from the server without that selection. This is
a home computer running XP Pro on a Cable Modem.
 
It is possible to set this up. Here is a link to an article that should
walk you through the steps to make this happen,
