My Windows XP system (IBM T43 notebook) recently started rebooting each
morning at about 7am (EDT). I generally leave it running at night when I go
to bed, as I'm running Boinc, but starting about a week ago, when I come out
each morning, its back to a logon prompt. Its not a result of a system trap,
as I have 'automatic restart' optoin turned off. Also I looked in the event
viewer and do not see anything of interest there.

I'm wondering if the corporate IT folks have done something here to cause
the system to shutdown and restart on a scheduled basis.

TIA

It's possible that the PSU or CPU is overheating (esp if it's on for
very long periodsof time) and causing the PC to reset. Have a look for
dust (and dust bunnies) on the components inside the case. Give it a
good burst of compressed air.

Look in Scheduled Tasks and see if anything is there. Good place to start.

Well, Windows does have the "shutdown" command that can be run as a
scheduled task or run on another machine that can network in with
administrator privilege. If it's the latter, make sure your security
logs are enabled and look in the security log for another machine
connecting/authenticating just before shutdown.

To save power, my company uses a program that powers down computers at
night and starts them up again before I get to work. It shows up as a
service named "WakeUpAgt" and/or "NightWatchman" in my services list.

I'm sure there are other similar programs like that out there.
