Automatic Numbering

I have a fairly simple document, autonumbered as follows:
1. Heading1
1.1 Heading2
1.1.1 Heading3
Under Heading3, I have paragraphs (subheadings) numbered a), b), c), etc
My problem is: When I move to a new Heading3, e.g. 1.1.2, the paragraph
numbering continues from where it left off before, e.g. d), e), f), etc
What do I have to do to have these paragraphs automatically restart at a)
under a new heading?

Hi PJY,
Thanks for your response. I do still have a problem though, but it is
possible that I do not follow the correct procedure. Currently, I do the
following:
1) On the Styles and Formatting list, I select the style that is suppose to
produce the auto numbering.
2) I right click on the style and select Modify.
3) On the Modify Style window, I select Format, and then Numbering.
4) On the Bullets and Numbering window are 4 tabs, namely: Bulleted,
Numbered, Outline Numbered, and List Styles.
5) I select Numbered and then select the "a.---- b.---- c.---- box.
6) I then select the Customize tool, but on the Customize Numbered List
there is no restart function. Where do I go wrong?
Regards
Johann
