How do I disable the function that causes the mouse to
automatically select something if I position the cursor
over a button or link. If I put the cursor over a button
or link it will sometimes select it even if I have not
clicked on it. I have tried looking in the help but
cannot find how to disable this function. It is really
annoying... please help. Thanks.

Thank you for your recommendation.

When I looked at that option the Snap To check box was
not selected. I tried selecting it but it still does the
same thing....

For example, I just typed in the URL www.yahoo.com and it
displayed the web page. I happened to have my cursor over
the finance icon and suddenly I was being taken to the
finance page, but I did not click on it! Rather annoying.

yah i realized that i was wrong about snap to , but I am pretty sure there
some other gizmo like that in the control panel.

you could try creating a new user and see if that new user has the same
symptoms

I'll keep thinking

In Control Panel - Folder Options, General, make sure you have selected
'Double click to open', not 'Single click to open; point to select'
