After a program badly installed itself in Windows XP I
was not able to repair the installation. Upon
reinstallation I have not found where and how to make XP
Professional log itself on without having to enter a
password. I am the only user of the computer. I am
signed in as the "Administrator."

Thanks for your help!

First of all, it is a bad policy to run your computer as Administrator.
If your account somehow became corrupted, you would have no choice but
to reinstall the operating system. You should create an account with
Adminstrator privileges and use that account to administer the computer.

OK. To log in automatically, go to Start, Run, and type "control
userpasswords2" without the quotes. Click OK. At the top of the User
Accounts applet, clear the checkbox for "users must enter a username and
password..." Enter the username and password that you want to use for
an automatic logon, and OK your way out.
