Automatic email checking not working

B

bill

Am using Office 2003 and Out;look refuses to check email by itself -
I always have to press F9.

I have changed the automatic Send/receive times for both online and
offline with no help.

I tried an office repair - no change.

Ther only think that I think could have caused this is that I changed
the name of the computer.

Any ideas on how to fix this or do I need to remove Outlook and do a
fresh install?

It is impossible to determine why automatic polling is failing when you do
not post your mail account type, connection type and polling settings.
The Magic 8-ball says, "Try again later." Next time post some information.

Using Outlook 2003 sp2
3 mail accounts all POP3
connection type is Lan to cable modem
Polling settings are now set at 1 minute for offline and online

I did try adding another account group in case the "all accounts" group was
damaged and set that one to frequent checking too but it made no difference.
The only way I get email id if I manually request it through button or F9

One minute is way too short. Try increasing it to eight or ten minutes.

Outlook should ignore that request. Did you really think Outlook could
complete an entire polling cycle for 3 accounts in 1 minute then start it
all over again? Why would you do this?

You guys are tough!

Why set to 1 minute? - for troubleshooting of course!

It was originally set to 5 minutes ( the default I suspect).

And yes it can easily check mail per minute - 25 seconds is all it
takes when I hit F9

So back to the real problem - what would cause Outlook to ignore the
polling time - whatever it is.
