Automatic date update

When I open a document that I had created a day, week or month ago the date
changes to the current date. I have turned off the automatic date update in
"insert date and time" box under "insert" and it continues. It is quite
agrevating.

Please provide an answer in laymens terms. Thank you.

The check box in the Insert | Date and Time dialog affects only the dates
you enter from that dialog now, not dates inserted previously. Any date
inserted with the box checked (or using the Insert Date button on the Header
and Footer toolbar or the Alt+Shift+D shortcut) will be inserted as a DATE
field. What you want is a CREATEDATE field.

Press Alt+F9 to display the field code, and change DATE (or TIME) to
CREATEDATE. Press Alt+F9 again, then F9 to update the field. It is a good
idea to insert a CreateDate field in letter templates and the like to save
you from having to insert the date manually.

You are using a DATE or TIME field rather than a CREATEDATE field. This
field should be put in the original template if possible (instead of
inserting using the keyboard shortcut or header/footer toolbar button).

In the document in question, press Alt-F9 to display field codes. Then
change the field to a CREATEDATE field, press F9 and then Alt-F9.
