Hi -
I have a general question about using the Date & Time dialog box. Is it
possible for a user to insert one of the available formats, keep the "update
automatically" unchecked, but still have the date automatically update the
next time the document is opened?
I have a user who says she purposely does not select "update automatically"
yet when she opens the document at a later date, the current date shows, not
the creation date.
I have read the posts, and know I can change coding to fix this, or just
type the date manually, but my question is - can Word actually change her
option to update automatically, even if she did not have the box checked when
she hit OK? This seems like quite the bug, if so. I can see the convenience
of using the dialog box to insert a preformatted date, but if you have no
control over what the application does behind the scenes, it seems like a
useless option, unless you do want to have your date update automatically.
Most end users are not that savvy when it comes to recognizing when Word
inserts a field, not straight text. I'm not convinced my end user did
actually uncheck the update automatically box, but since I have no way of
proving that one way, or another, I'd like to know if this is something Word
is known to do on its own.
