Autofill alphabet series not possible in Excel?

Am i losing my mind here? I could have sworn that in the
past I was able to autofill the alphabet series using
excel and starting the series with an "A" and "B". There
is not even an option with the Autofill menu to continue
the series like there is with numbers and dates and days.
Does anyone know if this is possible? Seems like it would
have been a no brainer to include an autofill series for
the alphabet if not the most obvious one, it had to be in
the top two before days and months. Appreciate any help
you can provide. I know I can make a custom series but
like I said, I could have sworn it was a built in thing
before. Thanks.

You have to create your own list, an easy way to do this would be to do as
follows,
just open a new workbook, in A1 put

=CHAR(ROW(97:97))

copy down to A26, now while still selected copy it,
do edit>paste special as values in place, while still selected do
tools>options>custom lists, first click import then add, click OK.

Now you can use both caps and lower case autofill
