autocorrect

A new installation of Office 2003 has produced an annoying autocorrect (I suspect) error that can't be eliminated. Every time "Test" (with either an upper or lower case t) is typed, "This is sample text" is automatically inserted. It does not matter if it is an Office product or Notepad; the problem is everywhere. There is no entry for the word in the Autocorrect listing. Can somebody please help me? The word I want to use is vital to our work.

Hmmm... and there's no AutoText for that either?

Create a new AutoCorrect entry for "test", and use "test" as the replacement
word. Does that cause the problem to go away?

If so, then now delete the "test" entry, and see if the problem stays gone.

If not... do you have some other kind of autoreplace software that's active?

I tried your suggestion. No luck. There is no other autoreplace software in
place on the PC. I am going to try renaming the normal.dot template and
creating a new one. Maybe the original is corrupt and this will work. Have
you tried this method with any other problem? Are my hopes too high?

AutoCorrect is _not_ in normal.dot (usually). It is in an .acl file.

Notepad doesn't use AutoCorrect AFAIK.

When you said "no luck" in response to Herb Tyson's suggestion, what,
exactly, did you do and what were the results?

I created a autocorrect entry of "test" and the problem stopped occurring;
however, when I wanted to start a sentence that began with that word, it
would lower-case the first letter. And, of course, the same would happen
when the autocorrect entry was "Test" -- it was not possible to have both as
autocorrect entries. Once the entries were removed from the autocorrect
list, the problem occurred again.

As stated before, we have no other autoreplace software on the computer.

For background, the CD and method used were the same CD and method as we
used on other PCs and the others don't have the problem. Either something is
corrupt or there is a setting I am unaware of that needs to be changed. My
last resort would be to totally uninstall Office 2003 and reinstall it.

Any advice is most welcome.
