I am having a problem with my lan card. It seems to be
autoconfigured with a Microsoft IP address and I can
release the IP using the "ipconfig /release" command.

I have even manually congigured the card and I can't get
it to work either was. I have two systems connected to a
router with private addressing (done automatically) and
then connected to the internet via Cable Modem.

I would like to get rid of the autoconfiguration on the
Lan Card so DHCP will work.

Please help..

The autoconfiguration address is the result of a problem, not the
cause of the problem.

Your lan card is unable to communicate with a DHCP server to get an IP
address. After waiting for 1 minute for DHCP, it gives up and assigns
itself an autoconfiguration address. That address wasn't assigned by
DHCP, so it can't be released by "ipconfig /release".

The problem could be the lan card, network cable, or router port. It
could be incompatible settings between the lan card and the router.
