Autochk "file not found" message on bootup

After installing the newest version of System Mechanic v.6 I have been
getting a message on booup that states the Autochk.exe file cannot be found
and that AutoCheck was not run.

I searched and found the Autochk.exe file in the proper location (System
32). Thinking the file might be bad, I replaced it with a copy from the
latest XP update file but am still getting the same message on bootup and
prevents me from running chkdsk on my system.

Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

Did you run system mechanic and allow it to clean anything? Undo what it
cleaned. If it now works, throw out system mechanic.

I revewed all of the changes made by System Mechanic but none were related to
the location of the AutoChk.exe file. Nothing System Mechanic did affected
file or system functions.

I'm still interested on why I get the message that the AutoChk.exe file is
not being found when it does exist and how to correct this problem.

Autochk.exe should be found in C:\Windows\System32. File size is 588800,
date is 08/03/2004, file version is 5.1.2600.2180

A like file should be in the dll cache at C:\Windows\System32\dllcache

Is this what you have?

I do have that exact file in the System32 folder but NOT in dllcache.
Should I make a copy from System32 and put into dllcache?

Open Notepad and Copy/Paste the two lines below:
dir C:\Windows\System32\?utochk.exe /a h > files.txt
notepad files.txt

Save the notepad as Findfile.bat on your desktop

Then replace what is in the Notepad with the two lines below:
dir C:\Windows\System32\?hkdsk.exe /a h > files.txt
notepad files.txt

Save the notepad as Findfile2.bat on your desktop

Double click the first one and post your results.
Double click the second one and also post your results.

You might have a virus.

Is your pc working correctly? If so, then why are you trusting system
mechanic?

This message can appear after modification of partition table, when the
first partition stay hidden (type 17 for hidden NTFS). The correct type
is 07 for NTFS. You can use
ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/tools/pq/utilities/pted
it.zip
to check your types.
It must be use after boot with a floppy.

Richard: prior to getting your last reply I tried a suggestion found in
Chkdsk related post. Specifically, from the command prompt I ran: chkntfs /d
and then rebooted my PC and it came up clean without the "file not found"
message. I then scheduled/ran Chkdsk on my next reboot and everything ran
clean without any further problems.

Thanks for your help.
