I am using Outlook 2003 and want to start archving some emails. If I use
this feature, will the Archive still have the same folder structure as in my
Outlook setup or does it throw everything into the same folder?

Also, there is an option that says, "Show archive folder in folder list".
Does this mean I can view my entire archive within Outlook but just under a
folder called Archive?

Thanks,

Jon

Yes, it will copy the structure.
Yes, it will show as an additional folder set

Tips of the month:
-FREE tool; QuickMail. Create new Outlook items anywhere from within Windows
-Properly back-up and restore your Outlook data

If I choose to show the archive folder in the folder list, will this slow
down the loading of Outlook as though the emails were not archived in the
first place?

e.g. Before: outlook.pst=1 gig

After: outlook.pst=500mb, archive.pst=500mb

But because I have the outlook.pst file showing the archive.pst folder,
there is still 1 gig being transferred acrosst he network. yes?

Ehm, network? Don't ever store your pst-files on a networkshare. While it
could work well for a long time you could end up with serious data
corruption and even data loss. It isn't very helpfull for your performance
either. Also note that Microsoft doesn't recommend or support connecting to
a pst-file on a networkshare.

The proper way to do it is to keep your pst-files locally and use the pst
back-up add-in to copy a backup to the networkshare.

Splitting the pst-file will increase performance but don't go nuts about it
(500MB is a nice number and a size that can also be backed up to CD). The
way of collecting informaion from a pst-file works a bit differently and is
mainly done through a TOC so there is no need to completely read/collect the
entire pst-file by each request.
