Just checked to see what the automatic update history was and I noticed that
one of the updates was shown as "cancelled". It's a security update, and I
know that I didn't cancel it. The number was "KB913446" and was dated
February 15th. When I go to Microsoft Updates, it shows that there are no
updates available for my computer. Any idea what could have caused this, or
is it something I just don't need to be concerned with.

Thanks!

Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs --> Check the "Show Updates"
checkbox.

Scroll down to "Windows XP - Software Updates" and underneath - do you see
"Security Update for Windows XP (KB913446)"?

You should be worried about all security updates especially those that
are critical!. I suggest try downloading it manually from here and
install it yourself.

Next time, you should try using autoupdate again when you see something
has failed. Between 12th and 15th of the month is a very busy time as
new fixes are released by MS (2nd Tuesday of the month) and their
servers are normally very busy.

Yes, it is there. So why would it show up as cancelled when I run Microsoft
Update? By the way, Thanks!

Jim;
Does the history show a later successful install?
If not, most likely someone directly downloaded and installed the update.
In that case, it is normal for the Windows Update history not to show it
since Windows Update had nothing to do with it.
