Auto Update Vista Corrupting XP System?

I have auto update for my XP system. After the most recent update, debugging
alerts have come up frequently along with printer incompatability. Would the
auto updates being send be a blanket for both XP and Vista? If the updates
to XP are being sent out via Vista and they are not compatible, would this be
causing my problems?
Can't seem to get an answer from anyone on this...HELP.
