Auto Updates in Vista vs XP

Is there a diff between the basic ideas of Auto Updates between XP and
Vista?
This morning I logged on around 9AM and I suppose this was too early
for the updates. I stayed on about an hour.

I booted again at 7PM and have been on for 15 minutes, but the Windows
Updates dialog still says it last checked for updates at 9 AM.
Shouldn't it have checked again at 7PM?

It's set for notify before loading/installing updates, if that
matters.

When you KNOW that updates have been released (normally on the second
Tuesday of every month) you can force it.

Left column, "Check for updates"

I believe the default is 22 hours. That is, auto update checks for updates
every 22 hours.
