Vista won't start after Update

Hi

My son updated his HP Laptop running Vista on Saturday. Since then,
the laptop will not boot. I used the repair window that came up to re-
wind the last update, but forgot to turn auto-update off with the
result that it updated again! I can no longer restore to any previous
state (don't know why) and cannot start windows. Safe mode does start
up, but fails after about 2 minutes with the blue screen of death. I
can however start with the DOS prompt safe mode option.

Where do I look for help?

Thanks

Tone

Tone,

Do you have your Windows Vista disk that should have been shipped with
your son's HP laptop computer? Also, it would help to know exactly what
model computer he has, so that we may be able to trouble shoot a problem
that is specifically caused by a specific hardware compatibility problem.

Probably won't. It's almost unreadable given its poor grammar, the
lack of capitalization and punctuation.

Your last sentence should have been written thus:

"It's almost unreadable, given its poor grammar and lack of
capitalization and punctuation."

When you're perfect, you can start criticizing other people's grammar
and spelling.

what spec of hp is most of the laptops and pcs of hp have a recovery
wizard to roll them back to factory conditions i would then download and
install service pack 1 before attemting to install any of the other
updates i believe it is f11 to recover laptop to factory conditions you
will have to hold f11 before laptop gets to the start up screen i hope
this solves your problems

Thanks for this. When I've pulled off all his data, I'll try the
recovery wizard - thanks for the F11 tip.

Tone,

If, indeed, your operating system disk is available to you, I would try
to reboot with the operating system CD and select the "Repair Computer"
option to see if it would be of any help. After you repair your computer,
attempt to reboot. If it continues to fail, it may be time to look into some
more serious problems with your system. As you were, please continue to post
your specifications tonight, and it would also help to know exactly what
operating system (etc.) you are using, so we can best determine your
problem.

My son's machine is an HP Pavilion DV600.

I've been able to get it back to a factory default, and now begins the
boundless joy of re-installing and upgrading.

Anyone know if there are known issues - I don't want to upgrade myself
back to a blue screen.

Thanks
