Auto update hangs

Everytime I go to auto-update my windows XP it hangs at
the 'preparing to download' screen. Any suggestions?
 
Same problem here....
Asks me if I want to upgrade my MSN Messenger...If I say
YES...it basically means that I have clicked YES to hang
my system rather than auto download the upgrade.
