Auto Text & Normal.dot

Dear all,

Each of our users PC's point to a centrally controlled template directory on
a server in which a modified Normal.dot resides for Word XP. Contained in
the normal.dot is a huge list of Autotext entries. I have 2 questions...

1. if the user e-mails a Word document to a client, does the autotext stay
with the document, and therefore gives the client access to the autotext
within that doc?
2. is it possible to save autotext outside of the normal.dot? - It would be
good if each user could set their own autotext entries rather than having
each entry centrally stored. (and make my life easier too!)

Thanks in advance

1. You should _not_ be sharing normal.dot. The problem you are having now is
trivial compared to those you are creating.

2. Inserted autotext is a part of a document, just as if typed by hand.
AutoText, itself, resides only in templates, not documents.

3. If you are not sharing normal.dot, each user can save personal AutoText
in a personal normal.dot. This is how Word is designed to be used.

4. You can store AutoText in a different global template, which can be
shared. See http://addbalance.com/word/movetotemplate.htm for step-by-step
instructions on moving / sharing / copying / backing-up customizations
including AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments, toolbars, macros,
etc.

Thanks Charles - do you know if it's possible to print the current list of
autotext residing in the template?

Assuming that all AutoText is currently in your normal.dot template...

On the Print Dialog box (File > Print) you will find an option on the lower
left corner for what is to be printed. Change this to AutoText entries.
