Auto-Run or AutoPlay Does not Work in DVD-ROM or DVD Burner

I have a Sony DVD-ROM and a SONY DVD Burner, neither of
which will automatically start-up program installation
discs, games, or music cd's. They did when I first
installed them, but now they won't. I found the MS
Knowledge Base Article-330135 that shows how to enable
the autorun feature for cd players. Does the same
procedure apply for DVD-ROM'S and DVD Burners, and if so,
what do I find these two devices under in the registry?
Also, is there a similar MS Knowledge Base article that
applies to DVD-ROM'S and DVD Burners?

Bob,
Go into the windows explorer (right click the start
button and choose explore). Find the Cd drive and right
click on it and choose properties. Click on the autorun
tab and make sure your autorun isn't set to "take no
action"

automatically. I guess I have to find out the way to get
into the registry and make some changes similar to those
mentioned in the MS Knowledge base article #330135. If
you know of anything else I could try, I'd appreciate
hearing from you.

Start >Run>Regedit>Ok
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom

Change to value of 'Autorun', or create a new DWORD value if it doesn't
exist: (0=disable, 1=enable)

Restart Your Computer.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure I sent the first reply
correctly so I'm trying again.

I tried your suggestion but it didn't work. I had Roxio
Easy CD Creator on the machine before I removed the CD-
ROM and CD-RW drives and upgraded them to the DVD-ROM and
DVD-RW drives. I also uninstalled CD Creator 5 and
upgraded to Roxio's Easy CD DVD Creator 6 before I
switched the drives. Autoplay worked find for a month or
two after the upgrades. I have no idea what happened. I
can get the discs to run via My Computer or by starting
MusicMatch Jukebox first, so it isn't critical, but it is
inconvenient. I would much prefer simply inserting the
disc and everything starts like it used to. It really
bugs the heck out of me that I can't figure this out and
fix it. I would appreciate any help you or anyone else
can give me. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

CD and DVD drives are not distinguished for such purposes. The normal
method of control is in My Computer - r-click the drive, Properties -
Autoplay. But MSoft people have brought out a 'check and fix' program
to address problems - it is available (courtesy of Mike Kolditz) at
