Auto Logon Problem with XP Pro

JD

I have recently run Automatic Updates on my HP zd7000
laptop for WinXP Pro. I have had this laptop for about 8
months now. I still use the Welcome screen and fast user
switching but now when I start my computer, Windows
bypasses the Welcome screen and goes DIRECTLY to my
desktop. I have troubleshooted this so far with:

1) control userpasswords2 and checked off the box for
require password to logon
2) Set the AutoAdminLogon registry entry to 0 to disable it
3) ran the command rundll32 netplwiz.dll,ClearAutoLogon
4) Deleted the DefaultPassword entry from Winlogon in the
registry

My computer still connects me directly to my desktop. I
have NO other user accounts on my computer. This has only
just started to happen recently, it never happened over
the first 8 months that I've owned this laptop.

JD,

Set a password for the user account, or create a dummy user account and hide
from Welcome Screen.

Ramesh,

Thanks for the reply. I've created a dummy account and
went into the registry to hide the account from the
Welcome screen and it still happens. I went into the
Winlogon\Special Accounts\User List section of my registry
and typed in the exact name of the dummy account and set
its value data to 0 and my Welcome screen is still ignored.
Any other ideas? Thanks.

JD,

Pls ignore my earlier response as it won't help. The dummy account has to be
displayed in the Welcome Screen if you want to prevent the auto-logon. Or
even better, set a password for your existing user account.

Did you or anyone ever figure this out? I'm having the same problem!
