Auto-dial using rras

Previously when i was using plain old dial-up connection, i can let
rras automatically dial for me whenever i start the IE. In static
route (RRAS) with IP 0.0.0.0 and then demand dial. Then whenever it
detected , it will logon but now i'm using ADSL but using PPPoE dial
up, i can't get it to work. Pls advise. Thanks

Hello Daniel!

As I suggested, PPPoE software is a PITA. PPPoE is supported under XP and
Win2k3, but not W2k. Try this and see if it helps. If Windows 2000, you
would need to check the documentation for WinPoet.

Dial-up Modem or PPPoE Option in New Connection Wizard Is Unavailable
(Q320558):

If the above doesn't help, or you have WIndows 2000, here's some info on
PPPoE:
Carrick Solutions Limited - WinPoet PPPoE:
http://www.carricksolutions.com/winpoet.htm

If that does not help, I would suggest to buy that USD $39.00 Linksys router
I mentioned in a previous post last week. Using a router such as this
supports PPPoE so you do not have to worry about using your Windows machine.
Did you know that PPPoE is overhead on a machine?

It is the software that the ADSL provider gives you to install on your
machine to achieve Internet connectivity with their ADSL system. Did you
install software that they provided you?

XP and W2k3 has PPPoE software built in.

Ace yes i installed the software but not WinPoet. So WinXp and win2k3
can detect the connection when required but not Win2k ?

Ok, if you installed the software, then it is a PPPoE software, maybe not
necessarily WinPoet, but a version of it. Too much overhead. Yes, XP and
w2k3 is built in. You still have to configure it to setup the connection.

Daniel, do you not like the router idea?

I'm considering one. But can't Win2k make it auto dial when i start IE
? Thanks for the idea.

If you created a static route to the outside world, and use the demand dial
interface you created, then it should make the connection when requested.

Believe me, for $39.00, the cost is worth the savings in headaches.
