auto complete To:

Hi folks,
Inside my organization we use 2003 Exchange and Outlook. When the auto
suggest names come up when I begin to type in the To: box, it is the person's
name and their username in < > to the right of the name. One of my users
appears in everyone's auto suggest with a username in the < > that is nowhere
to be found in that persons AD profile. I have looked the profile through up
and down and couldn't find the username listed. It was the account's previous
account holder's username, but that has been changed everywhere in AD. Can
someone tell me where the username is pulled from to be put in that auto
suggest list? Thanks!

It is pulled from whatever the sender typed into the To: field. Or it is
pulled from whatever data source the sender happened to have used for
selecting the recipient.

Hey Russ,
Thanks for the response. The data source here is my Exchange server. When
typing the name of the recipient in the To: box an auto suggest list drops
down from where you can select a possible recipient. It is the person's name
and then either their username for my organization or an email address if
that person is external in the < > after the person's name. Internally on my
Exchange server where would the internal's username be pulled from? I cannot
find the username anywhere in the AD or the Exchange listings. The former
user's name is still there and the username on the account has changed since.
Thanks!

To my knowledge Microsoft has never documented the algorithm and methods
used to populate the NK2 file. Indeed, it differs for every recipient type.
The only people I know who have been able to crack this code are the
developers at Ingressor. They are usually pretty generous about sharing that
information if you have an NK2 problem they can help figure out. It's worth
a call to them, anyway.
