Here's what I have in that section:
(Default)............................REG_SZ.............(value not
yet set) Append Completion.............Reg_SZ.............yes
AutoComplete In File Dialog..Reg_DWORD.....0x00000000 (0)
AutoSuggest.......................Reg_SZ.............no
The "icons" are little "ab" things for all but AutoComplete In File
Dialog, which is a little "0011" over "110".
Thanks
:
Hello,
This also depends upon which application you are talking about. It
seems the Windows Common Dialog box picks up the settings from the
registry at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoComplete
If I set the Append Completion string to 'yes' then i get inline
autocomplete within notepad's open dialog box. If i set it to 'no'
then the inline autocomplete is turned off. This registry value is
set by IE's inline autocomplete setting.

It works in Windows Explorer - when I use the Address Bar to
navigate around
my subdirectories.
But I turned it off and back on, and it still doesn't do nuthin'
when I am facing Open Dialog boxes.
Can you tell me where in the Registry this is? I can compare my two
machines
and see what's different.
(Don't worry, I'll back up my Registry first! - AND I'll report out
what I find.)
Thanks.
:
That should definitely make it work...atleast it does so on my
machines here. Sorry, I am running out of ideas here.

My bad for not calling out the distinction, but that is indeed
exactly what I
did before my original post.
:
Hello,
Note the subtle difference between AutoComplete and inline auto
complete.
I
am asking you to enable inline auto complete. This is NOT the
same as AutoComplete. Go to the advanced tab within the internet
options of IE and
put a check next to 'Use inline auto complete'.

As mentioned in my original post, I have already done that. It
does not
make
a difference.
Must I have IE as my default browser to use AutoComplete in
other software????
:
Hello,
Open IE and click on tools > internet options and flip to the
advanced
tab.
Put a check next to "Use inline AutoComplete". Click on OK.

I have two nearly identical machines, each running XP SP2.
On one, when I select the "Open File" dialog, it
auto-completes the
"File"
field based on what's in the subdirectory.
(In other words, say I have three files in the subdirectory:
"aardvark.jpg",
"absinthe.txt", and "detox.hlp". If I have the Open File
dialog open,
and
type in "a", the machine will populate the field with
"aardvark.jpg";
if I
then type in "b", it will repopulate the field with
"absinthe.txt".)
I like that feature, and would like it on the other.
How?
(And I DO have "Auto Complete" turned on in IE, although IE is
NOT
my
default browser.)
Thanks
