auto chkdsk - a pain

All of a sudden when I boot up I get a message that chkdsk wants to run on
my D: partition. I've read e-mails on this and have decided it's because I
shut down my PC improperly and wound up with some "dirty bits" in my
registry.

Can anyone guide me through fixing this ... or give me any others ideas as
to what the problem might be?

Thank you, Andy
