I have remote users that have machines that have an
established account on our domain. They take their
machines home, logon with the same credentials that they
used when connecting directly to the network, then VPN
into the network over their high speed connection. They
have access to everything on the network but can not map
a drive to a share. If we use their credentials with the
net use command with the option [/USER:[domainname\]
username] it works fine. It seems as though the pass
through credentials are not working. Why would this not
work? How can I correct this problem? We have just a
small amount of users having this problem. Others users
that have the same image but are using other ISP's are
working fine and are able to map without a problem. The
user that I am talking about is using the Microsoft PPTP
VPN client which works fine for everything but mapping a
drive. These are windows 2000 and NT 4.0 workstation
users. We don't seem to be having a problem with XP
users.

When they go home, are they logging into the domain, or local computer? Is
the username/password exactly the same if local computer? Are the users
logging on using the DUN Checkbox at the control-alt-delete screen?

These all can play a factor in the behavior you are seeing. When you map the
drive with the user credential you are doing this because you have no
security context provider, so this is needed. XP acts differently from what
I have seen, from W2K and NT 4.0 so this could be an explanation to what you
are seeing.
