Ok I'm new to computers, Microsoft support say its not
their problem to deal with so I'm stuck. If anyone can
help I'd be grateful. So windows XP home edition, my
volume control icon has disappeared, and when I went to
sounds and audio devices in the control panel it says I
have no audio device. I cant get any sound, and I've had
my pc for a few months without a problem, it just
vanished all of a sudden. If anyone has any suggestions I
would be really grateful if you'd email me. Thankyou in
advance, Cat.

As you're 'new' to computers I'm going to assume you probabbly don't know the make/model of your soundcard/chipset. Visit the hardware config screen from within control panel and look for any devices under audio devices or for any other 'problem' devices that have a yellow explamation mark. At this point you may need to post your findings again, as there could be several reasons why it is not working. If the sound device has a problem you should probably state that as well. It is hard to give an advice beyond this without knowing the full problem

If there is a problem and it is driver related, I would advise you to either dig out the driver cds that came with your computer or download some from the manufactureres web site. Then go into the sound device and attempt to update the driver from the disc or file you downloaded.
